Jaicharan Iyengar, MD is a specialist in orthopaedic surgery with focus on treatment of the shoulder, elbow and knee. His specific interests include sports medicine/arthroscopy, rotator cuff repair, total shoulder replacement, shoulder instability, ligament reconstruction, and upper extremity fracture care.

Dr. Iyengar spent his formative years in Southern California rooting for the Los Angeles Lakers. A die-hard Bruin, he graduated summa cum laude from UCLA with B.A. in History. He attended medical school at UC San Francisco where he stayed on to complete his residency in orthopaedic surgery. He completed additional training in shoulder, elbow and sports medicine surgery at the prestigious Charles S. Neer fellowship at Columbia University in New York. During his fellowship, Dr. Iyengar served as an assistant team physician to the New York Yankees and Columbia Lions Division I football team under his mentors Dr. Christopher Ahmad and Dr. William Levine, respectively. ​

Dr. Iyengar has published numerous scientific articles and delivered presentations on rotator cuff repair, reverse shoulder replacement, shoulder instability and fractures/trauma of the shoulder and elbow. He has authored book chapters on minimally-invasive rotator cuff repair technique and elbow ulnar collateral ligament (“Tommy John”) surgery. He has a special interest in injury prevention and treatment of the throwing athlete.

He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) and is a board-eligible diplomate of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS). He holds eligibility for a Certificate of Added Qualification (CAQ) in Sports Medicine.

Dr. Iyengar is interested in the global burden of musculoskeletal disease and has volunteered in orthopaedic medical missions in Uganda and South Africa. He is passionate about travel and has visited over 30 countries in 6 continents. He and his wife, a native of Stockton, enjoy hiking, cooking, snowboarding, yoga and wine appreciation.

Dr. Takeuchi is a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine specializing in the surgical and non-surgical management of foot and ankle disorders. His specialty includes reconstruction, trauma and diabetic limb salvage surgery. Dr.Takeuchi also provides specialty care in biomechanics, sports medicine, and general podiatry.

Dr. Takeuchi earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Neurobiology, Physiology and Behavior from UC Davis. He obtained his Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine from the California School of Podiatric Medicine at Samuel Merritt University in Oakland, CA. He completed residency training at Sripps Mercy Hospital, San Diego, CA and Kaiser Medical Center, Sacramento, CA.

Dr. Takeuchi is a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons.

Dr. Takeuchi is Board Certified in Foot Surgery and Reconstructive Rearfoot/Ankle Surgery by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery.

He is on the medical staff at St. Joseph’s Medical Center, Dameron Hospital, and San Joaquin General Hospital.

Dr. Phan specializes in Interventional Pain Management.  In his words, “The pain experience has not only physical but also mental, spiritual and social implications. Dr.Phan is board certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, as well as by the American Board of Pain Medicine. He received his BS in Biochemistry from University of California, Davis, and his M.D. from New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York.  He completed a residency in Internal Medicine at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital and a fellowship in Interventional Pain Medicine at Nexus Paincare in Provo, Utah.

Dr. Alegre is a native of San Joaquin County and a first generation physician from an agricultural family.  He graduated from Tracy High School in 1987 prior to graduating with High Honors from U.C. Davis.  From Davis He traveled to Boston where He graduated with honors from Tufts Medical School.  Dr. Alegre then returned to U.C. Davis to complete his orthopedic surgery residency where he developed an interest in spine surgery under the guidance of mentors, Drs. Daniel Benson and Munish Gupta.  In order to acquire expertise in spinal surgery, he completed a spine surgery fellowship at the Leatherman Spine Institute in Louisville Kentucky.

Dr. Alegre’s practice is diverse.  He can treat simple spinal conditions to major spinal problems that would otherwise be treated at a tertiary care hospital.  His  interest in less invasive spinal surgery has allowed the latest techniques to be brought to the central valley.  He continues to help develop and refine spinal surgery techniques and help train doctors from around the world, and enjoys working on  new spinal implants and procedures to advance the rapidly developing practice of spine surgery.

Dr. Alegre has a wife, and three boys and the family has lived in Stockton since 2003.  He enjoys riding off-road vehicles, fishing, hunting, and being outdoors.

Dr. Kawaguchi has been practicing orthopaedic surgery in Stockton, CA since 2000.  He is a big believer in giving quality care to his patients. He has special expertise in treating broken bones, both simple and complex ones. As a member of several orthopaedic organizations devoted to fracture care, he understands and uses the latest technologies available to him in treating such problems.

He is a volunteer clinical faculty on the orthopaedic trauma service at UC Davis Medical Center where he helps to train their resident surgeons. He has also been an instructor at numerous fracture care courses for orthopaedic surgeons. Dr. Kawaguchi is skilled at treating common orthopaedic problems such as knee arthritis and injuries. He uses both arthroscopic and open surgical techniques to provide the best care for his patients. He is currently the chief of the orthopaedic surgery service at St. Josephs Medical Center in Stockton, CA. When not practicing orthopaedic surgery, he can often be found on the ski slopes or taking in a professional basketball game.

Dr. Kawaguchi received a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from Harvard University. He was awarded his Medical Degree from New York University School of Medicine in 1994. Dr. Kawaguchi completed his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at University of California, Davis, as well as his Fellowship in Orthopaedic Trauma.

Dr. Anh Le specializes in the treatment of adult and pediatric spinal disorders. Dr. Le attended Medical School and Orthopaedic Residency at UCSF. He completed his spine fellowship at St. John Medical Center in Los Angeles.

Dr. Le serves as the Chairman of the Department of Surgery at Dameron Hospital and the Chief of Spine Surgery at St. Joseph’s Hospital. In his free time, he enjoys playing tennis and snow skiing.

Dr. Winter was born in Germany and grew up in Northern California. He treats all types of orthopaedic injuries and specializes in joint replacement and sports medicine. ip adr . He has served as the team physician for St. Mary’s High School for the past 15 years and enjoys working with young athletes. Dr. Winter received a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from Pepperdine University. He was awarded his Medical Degree from Medical College of Wisconsin. Dr. Winter completed his residency in Orthopaedics at University of Miami, Jackson Memorial Medical Center.

In addition to his medical practice, Dr. Winter is actively involved in the California Orthopaedic Association. He serves on the board of directors and as chairman of the Legislation Committee, often speaks to lawmakers concerning medical legislation.

He and his wife, Kris are parents of four active children who are involved in many sports teams. In his free time, Dr. Winter enjoys attending their soccer games, cycling and doing projects around his home.

Steven Eager, MD was born and raised in the San Joaquin Valley.  An avid skier and cyclist, Dr. Eager is passionate about helping patients relieve pain and get back to the active lifestyle they enjoy. In his 20 years of practice he has worked with athletes from high school to professional sports including providing medical services to the San Francisco 49ers during their Summer training camps in Stockton.

Dr. Eager treats all types of Orthopaedic problems and has extensive experience with shoulder injuries. He uses both   arthroscopic techniques  and open surgical approaches to  care for a wide variety of shoulder problems ranging from tendonitis and instability to complicated  rotator cuff tears and osteoarthritis.  Dr. Eager continues to keep up to date with the latest treatments and techniques in Orthopaedic surgery through his affiliations with national societies and organizations and received his Orthopaedic Board recertification in 2012.

Dr. Eager holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences from the University of California, Berkeley.  He received his Medical Degree from University of Health Sciences/Chicago Medical School.  He completed his residency in Orthopaedic
Surgery at Hospital for Joint Disease Orthopaedic Institute in New York City.

Gary Murata, MD was born and raised in Sacramento. Dr. Murata has a passion for advanced orthopedic care. As an active cyclist and snowboarder, he has specialized training and interest in all types of sports injuries with particular interest in complex knee injuries and performs advanced arthroscopic reconstructive surgery. Dr. Murata is trained in accelerated surgical treatment for total knee and hip replacement surgery. The latest surgical techniques are used for advanced rehabilitation, surgical precision and a major focus in the reduction of surgical discomfort.

Dr. Murata received a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Animal Physiology from University of California, Davis. He was awarded his Medical Degree from University
of Southern California School of Medicine. Dr. Murata completed his residency in Orthopaedics at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles.

He serves as the team physician for the Stockton Ports, an Oakland Athletics “Class A” affiliate, since 1997 and a consultant to the University of the Pacific and Lincoln High School athletic teams since 1993. Dr. Murata is a recipient of the subspecialty Sports Medicine certification of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. He enjoys international volunteer work and has traveled to Central America and Africa performing surgical procedures through Mercy Ships and other Christian organizations. Dr. Murata finds there is no greater blessing than to care for patients and athletes and see the results of improved performance, comfort and wellness.

Edward Cahill, M.D., grew up in the Bay Area yet enjoyed family gatherings in Stockton over the Thanksgiving and Easter holidays.  His educational journey took him to Stanford for his BS and MS degrees in 1974 and 1975, and then to USC for his MD in 1979.  Subsequently, when he finished his orthopaedic residency in 1984 at Los Angeles County USC, he was pleased to come to Stockton, which was and still is in need of orthopaedic specialists.  He continues to desire in providing the highest quality orthopaedic care to his patients.

His general orthopaedic practice has concentrated over the years towards sports medicine, arthroscopic surgery, and knee and hip arthroplasty.  He has volunteered as team physician for thirteen years for Edison High School, twelve years for Lincoln High School and twenty years for University of the Pacific where he continues to provide care for young athletes.  He has maintained his orthopaedic surgical board certification.  He has served on the Board of Directors of the California Orthopaedic Association for eleven years.  He has also served as Orthopaedic Subsection Chairman at Dameron Hospital and St. Joseph’s Hospital, as well as Chief of the Surgery Department and Chief of Staff at Dameron Hospital.  He has also tried to help the community by serving ten years as a trustee for San Joaquin County Historical Society and six years as a trustee for Catholic Charities.

His personal life has been focused on his wife, Carol Cahill, M.D., and their four children, three of whom are physicians.  The family has enjoyed Stockton’s proximity to the ocean and the Sierra Nevada for hiking and skiing.  The open countryside of San Joaquin County has been an excellent avenue for bicycling, which he often recommends to some of his patients as a low impact aerobic activity.
