In September of 1956, Irish immigrant, James V. Roche, M.D. opened his orthopaedic practice in Stockton. Over the next few years, he added partners Robert M. Hermann, W. Paul Mouchon, and Peter B. Salamon. These men were pioneers in the practice of Orthopaedic Medicine and Surgery

In the 1980’s Delta Orthopaedic formed with the addition of Vincent C. Leung, George W. Westin, Jr., and Steven E. Eager. At this same time Edward L. Cahill and Gary T. Murata were on the other side of Stockton building their own practice.

On January 1, 1993 Delta Orthopaedic and Cahill and Murata merged to become Alpine Orthopaedic Medical Group, Inc. Originally located on the corner of Alpine and Sutter in Stockton. Alpine started with the nine doctors and added physicians along the way (Roland H. Winter, Anh X. Le, Alan T. Kawaguchi, Joshua H. Urvater, Gary M. Alegre, Alex H. Phan, Matthew Takeuchi, Jaicharan J. Iyengar, Michael Y. Lin, Jaspreet S. Sidhu, Pratik J. Gandhi, Jeffrey J. MacLean, James M. Friedman, and Kyle M. Natsuhara) to offer a “full service” orthopaedic practice. Everything from spine to toe.

Thank you to our Administrator of 40 years, Anne McCune, who joined the two practices, brought a culture of hard work and helped us remain considerate of each other and our patients while doing so. Thank you to our employees, those who have been with us from Alpine to California, who have been employed here for 20 years or more, for those who though they have not been here very long knew what it meant to be part of the Alpine Orthopaedic Medical Group, Inc. family and were proud to have worked under the Alpine name.

Today Alpine Orthopaedic ends with dignity, having survived nearly 70 years in Stockton most of those years in this neighborhood between Alpine and Harding. Thank you to our patients who have come along with us all of these years. Who have helped Alpine Orthopaedic be what it has to this neighborhood and to this community.

Doctors Kawaguchi, Friedman, MacLean, Natsuhara, Phan, Iyengar, and Gandhi will be joining Sutter Health and will begin practice under the Sutter name on Monday July 28, 2025. They will remain in the 2488 N. California building with the same phone number (209) 948-3333.

Dr. Jaspreet Sidhu will be joining Dignity Health and will begin practice Monday August 4, 2025. He will be working out of 1901 N. California Street in Stockton across from St Joseph’s Hospital. (209) 946-6800 will be his new phone number.
